Audience Choice Award. An artist from Russia wins the hearts of Frenchmen
On September 20 – 22, 2018 the annual cultural event “Culture au Château” took place in Domaine de la Groirie (Le Mans), where the French elite gathered to watch theater plays and listen to classical music.
Our Association participated in this event – we organized a charity exhibition of works of art. Thirty-five paintings by twelve contemporary artists were exhibited in one of the halls of Domaine de la Groirie.
During the exhibition, visitors cast their vote to the canvas they liked most of all. A canvas “Mother’s shoes” by an artist Evgeniya Polyudova from Russia (Ufa city) was the best by voting. The participants of the event noted that this painting caused warm feelings that transferred them into their childhood.
“This is an amazing feeling when you realize that we are all united by our memories from childhood, regardless of our place of residence and our culture. All girls tried on their mother’s or grandmother’s shoes and dresses, used their cosmetics to look grown-up. There is a room called “My Childhood” in our hotel La Groirie. The atmosphere of this room is similar to that of the picture – it takes me back to my childhood. I love the feeling of warm nostalgia about the past and light melancholy, which warm the cockles of my heart” – said Gaetane Durand Lépine, the owner of La Groirie.
Gaetane’s husband, a famous plastic surgeon, Jean-Louis Durand noted that he preferred the Renaissance art, and the contemporary art was alien to him. However, the work of Evgeniya Polyudova reminded him of the works of Pierre-Laurent Brenot.
Two canvas by Evgeniya Polyudova were displayed at the exhibition: “Fishing” and “Mother’s shoes”
